Most of the lofts we see here at North of Boston Lofts.com are hardwood. Mostly beautiful loft flooring made of high quality maple or oak, polished to perfection, but in the end wood. Which is why we get so excited when we walk in to tour a loft with different floors such as concrete flooring. This is not just a slab of cement on the ground (although yes we have seen that if you can believe it!) these floors are polished to a glass like finish and stained. The natural dark and light aspects of the concrete take the stain in varying amounts and what is left is truly unique and special. The resulting concrete floor lends a modern charm to an open loft space and left us speechless!
Stained concrete has been popular flooring in Canada for decades. Where the winters are brutal and radiant heating is often used to make floors toasty warm. Concrete floors are durable, easy to clean and attractive. Imperfections highlight the character and uniqueness of this finish - no two floor surfaces are identical. Polished concrete floors require no maintenance other than vacuuming or occasional washing to remove dust, dirt or any spills. Additionally these amazing floors suck up all day sun light and let it off through out the night to warm your loft space.
